Jaume Plensa Taxi Cab Song

by nto on May 10, 2011

The folks at the madison square art conservancy are promoting the new Jaumé Plensa installation with the help of my song Fishin’

The video will run in new york city taxi cabs this summer to promote the installation in Madison Square Park. Here’s the video:

So, if you’re riding around in taxis in NYC this summer you may happen to hear my song. I’m curious how much exposure this will get, since in my experience with riding in taxis, my first reaction is almost always to turn the sound down. Hopefully if people get in at the right moment though and hear some cello instead of some loud blaring entertainment news they’ll take a listen. I’m also a little sad I don’t get to see the exhibition in madison square park. From my understanding the centerpiece is a gigantic 44 foot high sculpture of a woman’s head:

I actually used to work in Chelsea not far from Madison Square Park. Just a little walk past the flat iron building and I’d be waiting in line at the shake shack for a shroom burger for lunch. It’d be pretty cool to be able to look over and see this giant sculpture. So anyway, if you live in NYC or know someone who does, let them know to keep an ear out if they’re traveling by taxi.

Congrats! Good to see you’re getting nice recognition. I’m not one to advocate selling out, but some of your songs would lend themselves well to certain commercials. For example, Kashi, and the Nissan Leaf would go well with Drift Along. I’m half joking, but if you ever need cash, it’s the way to go.

I thought this would have been a more fitting sculptural design given that your music is being used to promote the exhibition.
